During our couple of days in Hong Kong I have been jotting down anything odd we see of have to do.
To be honest it is all quite normal. This is a well developed city with a lot of money. Tourists are plenty and everyone seems to integrate. It's a city where anything goes, not unlike London.
I feel safe and comfortable here but like London it's just too busy to consider living here.
Chopsticks. Obviously. But not just their use, but the grip. I have been taught all wrong.
Tipping. 10% is added to every bar bill and restaurant. Even if you buy one drink. Suppose it sorts out the 'how much do we leave' question.
If you want attention of a waiter you have to stick your hand up and wave. Most bars are table service. They don't really keep an eye out for you. At first we thought we were being ignored because we are foreign but no because we are not waving furiously.
Everyone carries an umbrella. Either to provide protection from the sun, or rain.
For once I have found a country that the mosquitoes aren't interested in me!
Anything goes clothing wise. Every other person has something weird on. I thought during rush hour the suits would all pile out, but no, a load more people are around but nothing to indicate where from.
They love a good queue. Especially for the bus.
I find shopping hard enough. Especially when designers have these pigeon holes. 'Classic', 'Slim'. Ok I know I'm not a slim fit. This one is new to me and puzzled me somewhat.
Asian fit!? It became apparent once i tried it on. It had cuffs at the elbows. So either they have incredibly short arms, or elbow cuffs are a fashion statement.
Designer wellies are all the rage. I noticed this in Istanbul as well. Couple of the girls in the office had them on and didn't appreciate my jokes. Here they have are semi functional given the rain.
Sticking two fingers up on photies. Alison asked the girls in the office why they do this. They don't know either. Just the one finger for MJ.
