Homeward Bound

It’s been a while since I was last in Greece and it’s reminded me how much I like it… it’s laid back, friendly, food is good and it’s picturesque. Ticked a box with Kafelonia, it’s not very touristy and Lixouri in particular is primarily a Greek village, you are not surrounded by English everywhere you go… never say never to returning to it.

It’s been lovely spending time with them away form the daily grind and routine…

Main square

The main square is full of outdoor eating and bars. We ate there one night and had a nice meal and the had to stop for ice cream-obvs! It’s not a particular on tourist town and there are a handful of hotels and tat shops… most restaurants sell typically Greek food and are full of Greek people eating. It’s nice from the typical English tourist traps that you can get to. Schools finishing this week will have an impact on this though guess?!

There is a cocktail bar on the 2nd floor overlooking the harbour… we took advantage of cocktail time

Harbour

Lots of boats in the harbour and some larger ones out to sea. Watching them come in and moor up in the choppy sea was ‘fun’ to watch

Cruise stop

For such a small town I am amazed by the cruise liners that are here… they are massive and dwarf everything around them.

Ferry trip

On the ferry across to Argostoli, it’s run like a machine. It’s the quickest way to get from one side to another and run about every 20mins. It was windy yesterday but that didn’t stop them. 

Beach Day

With the promise of a volleyball net at the beach, Jack is eager to go there. A short taxi rides and we arrive. The taxi driver is so trusting, pay when I pick you up… not in our country! The sea is cool and clear and there is a small restaurant for a drink and food. 

La Cite

Mum and dad’s hotel… 10minute walk from ours. Small, friendly and everyone knows who we are when we go in. Ring the bell for a beer… you can see why they like it. 

Lixouri

A taxi ride to the ferry and we meet mum and dad. It’s then the ferry across to the town… a short walk and we reach the hotel. Basic, clean and nice views for us. 

Kefalonia

After a very early start and impromptu visit to T2…. We are bag dropped and through security in 20mins, thank you fast track passes. A quick breakfast stop and the off to meet mum and dad in Kefalonia. They have been going for 20years but it’s out first visit. Just me and Jack after finishing his GCSE’s, the other two are at home as G has not finished school yet.
